Linden Resources Receives Grant In Recognition Of Its Job Placement and Retention Programs
October 17, 2012, 2012
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Linden Resources, Inc. recently received a $750 award from the Excalibur Foundation, Redlands, California, for its job placement and retention programs which help to increase employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
In presenting the Excalibur Fund Service Project Award to Linden Resources, the Foundation recognized Linden’s creative and innovative efforts to respond to the job finding problems of people in the “new normal economy”. As the country struggles with persistent unemployment, people with disabilities are impacted to a greater degree than non-disabled workers. They have dropped out of the labor force at five times the rate of workers without disabilities and the national disabled unemployment rate has consistently remained at 12% for the past few years.
The competitive Excalibur Foundation Service Project Award was granted to Linden after a winning oral presentation at the 90th Anniversary Round Table International Convention in Redlands, CA in late September. During an award ceremony at the local Northern Virginia Round Table, Chuck Richman, former CEO of Linden Resources (known as SOC Enterprises during his tenure) presented a check to Linda Chandler, Linden CEO in recognition of the organization’s groundbreaking rehabilitation programs.
One of Linden’s newest initiatives is the Vets Ready2Work program, established two years ago. Already, it has served over 100 disabled veterans and placed 50 vets in jobs. This is especially critical because many local disabled veterans are not receiving adequate job-finding assistance due to insufficient governmental and community resources. There are an estimated 47,000 Northern Virginia veterans in need of this help, with 2,500 confronting Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and 920 reporting both TBI and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Linden Resources, Inc. is an Arlington based non-profit organization whose mission is to increase employment opportunities for people with disabilities. Fifty-three years after its founding by a group of Northern Virginia parents seeking jobs for their adult children with disabilities, Linden now operates three commercial businesses which generate revenue to help carry out the organization’s mission, including print and mailing services; warehousing and order fulfillment; and secure document destruction. Additionally, it conducts various job placement and retention services for people with disabilities.
